Painful sensitive teeth would a root canal rid me of this pain?

I have tried everything. My dentist doesn't help either. Recommends sensitive toothpaste which doesn't work. I also tried a sealing treatment at his office and it didn't work. I have 4 teeth and I am in pain almost every day.

Painful sensitive teeth would a root canal rid me of this pain?
You said that you have tried sensitive toothpaste. For this to work you have to use it every time you brush and never use a different toothpaste. If you did this and it still didn't work ask your dentist for a prescription strength fluoride gel. Many times, daily application of a fluoride gel will decrease sensitivity. Yes, a root canal will most likely get rid of the pain. But you must have each tooth crowned after the root canal treatment because the tooth becomes very brittle after taking the nerve tissue out of the tooth. Root canal therapy and a crown will be at least $1500 per tooth depending on where the teeth are in your mouth and where you are located. The fluoride is worth a try before you resort to root canal therapy.
Reply:yes a root canal will stop this pain. It sounds like this is a last resort as it should be when all other options have failed. A root canal takes out the 'root' or nerve of the tooth making it incapable of feeling pain then you will get a crown which is like a fake tooth over the stump of the old tooth.
Reply:It might, but if your dentist wont help you, keep going back, or better yet just get a second opinion. Good luck and hope you feel better!
Reply:I am sorry to say that I was in the same boat as you and they did a root canal on me and said that it would make the pain go away and it DID NOT even though I had no root to feel pain with I could not stand the cold on my teeth and everything else hurt to so I ask the dentist what would make it go away and he said the only thing that would for sure work was to get my teeth pulled and guess what I did I got my plates to be put in the same day that I had my teeth pulled and I have been pain free since BUT I was in so much pain that I never could sleep anymore and it was in my ears so that is why I decided to go that route and it worked. I guess what I am saying is that the amount of pain that you are in is going to determine what action you will take. A root canal will work if you are hurting with just one tooth but all of my top one hurt so I eliminated the problem. I hope that this helps
Reply:Hi! Before you do anything, you should check out a dental discount plan, to help save you money. I am a Regional Sales Director for Ameriplan USA, and our dental plan is only $19.95 per month, and will cover crowns, root canals, etc... You will get anywhere from 30 - 80% off. Well worth the $20 per month!! Also, you are not in any type of contract, so you can cancel at anytime, not that you will want to. Anyway, I just wanted to let you know about it.

Plus, with the dental plan, you also get vision care, chiropractic, as well as prescription coverage too for free! And the $19.95 per month is for the entire household, not just for one person. Okay, I will stop talking now, but I just wanted you to know about it. You can check it out,as well as enroll online at www.mybenefitsplus.com/stacyprince

Best Wishes, Stacy
