How do I get ride of Sensitive teeth?

Last night before I went to bed I put some whitinging stuff on my teeth, then put my plastic retainer over it. I woke up in the middle of the night with a major tooth acke! I took my retainer off and went back to sleep. Well I woke up in the morning and my teeth felt like I had an ice cube sitting on them. They are so sensitive I cant eat, talk, breath out of my mouth or anything. I cant even drink room temp water. I called the dentist and he said that is was mostlikely from the whitinging stuff. I have used it this way before with no side effects. He said there was nothing he could do about it. Please help I am starving, thursty and in major pain!!!!!

People who use overnight whitening products often experience sensitivity varying from mild to severe. The nerve tissue in the tooth gets inflamed from the whitening process.

I have very sensitive teeth, which makes whitening pretty difficult. When my dentist gave me the whitening kit for use at home, he also gave me some tubes of concentrated fluoride gel to use in case of sensitivity. It works like a charm. For every two nights of soaking my teeth in the tray with the gel for whitening, I load the tooth tray with the fluoride gel one night. The teeth are still a bit sensitive, but not so much that it really bothers me.

The sensitivity should take about 2 days to go away... I don't think that you will be able to get the fluoride gel in time to really help you this time, but consider it in the future. Take some ibuprofen, keep your mouth shut, and only eat things at body temperature.

Don't listen to that person that told you the whitener ate away your enamel... that is impossible.
Reply:what brand did you use?
Reply:Pull them out
Reply:Get some sensodyne tooth paste - this will make the pain go away. Probably shouldn't use the whitening stuff again. Also, take some tylenol or ibuprofen - it will also decrease the pain so you can eat and drink.
Reply:Try sensodyne toothpaste.

Crest also has Crest Sensitive toothpaste.

I don't know what brand you used, but the whiteners I got said DO NOT use while sleeping. Its possible it ate away at the enamel on your teeth.
