How can I tell if my teeth are sensitive?

I want to get teeth whitening, but they say it might be painful if you have sensitive teeth? how can I tell?

I never particularly like going to the dentist and I always think it will hurt more than it actually does whenever I have any procedures but I dont think its necessarily sensitivity and more nerves so how can I be sure if I get whitening procedure it won't hurt?

How can I tell if my teeth are sensitive?
Sensitive teeth are ones that give you pain while you eat. Whitening is a dangerous procedure because bleach is used on your teeth. I recommend you try different whitening toothpastes till you find a good one, instead. No way would I get my teeth whitened by any dentist!
Reply:Do your teeth hurt if you drink something cold? or hot? Do they tingle when you eat something highly acidic...like lemons? Do you notice your teeth hurt if you are outside in the cold and breath in deep? If not, then I would say your teeth are not sensitive.

You might just try dipping your toothpaste in baking soda before you brush. It doesn't taste the best but if you do it everyday for a week to two weeks, you will notice a difference. They won't be glow in the dark white like the actors in Hollywood but it will get rid of tea, soda, and coffee stains if you have them. And it will brighten them.
Reply:I'm not too sure abt it. However, there are many ways to whiten your teeth.

Here are many ways that you can whitening your teeth!

For home remedies.

Mix baking soda and hydrogen peroxide to form toothpaste. Brush the teeth regularly with this paste. It will remove all stains in a month.

Use bicarbonate of soda 5 minutes before brushing the teeth with normal toothpaste in the morning. This is a good home remedy for teeth whitening.

Rubbing the bark of walnut tree on the teeth helps in removing all stains from the teeth.

Strawberries are considered natural teeth whiteners. Rubbing the teeth with strawberries daily will remove all the stains.

If you would like a suggestion on tooth whitening gel, here's something for you!

Crest Night Effects Whitening Gel (about $18.00) allows you to remove stains while you sleep. The tooth whitening system has a fresh, wintergreen flavor. After fourteen days of sleeping with this product on your teeth, you will wake up to a vibrant smile. You should see results in two days, although there are reports of tooth whitening results in one night
